• Frequently Asked Questions

Q "I don't know anything about websites. I wouldn't even know how to start to figure out what I need on my website. Can Designs By Sher/Equine Dzyns help me?"

A Sure! Our designers will sit down with you and analyze your product, who you are selling to, and what features and information your website will need to be an effective sales tool for your company.

Q "Do I have to have my own domain name (www.myname.com) to have a website designed?"

A You don't have to have your own domain name, but we highly recommend it. It lets your users know that you are to be taken seriously.

Q "Well that's great, but how much is it going to cost, and how do I go about getting my own domain name?"

A The standard InterNic fee for registering a domain name is $70. That pays for ownership of your domain for two years, and then the cost is $35/year. This fee is the same no matter who you deal with, as all payments are made to InterNic. If you hear of a web design company charging more than $70 to register your domain name for you, beware!

The first thing you need to check is whether or not the domain name you had in mind is still available. To do this, go to the InterNic page and type in the domain name you want. The search engine will tell you who, if anyone, owns the domain name. If it's not matched up with an owner, it's available for you to purchase. If you're unsure of how to go about setting up your domain name, Equine Dzyns can do it for you at no extra charge!

Q "What about hosting? Can Designs By Sher/Equine Dzyns help me find a good web server to host my website on?"

A Absolutely! We can recommend a good server to you, or even evaluate a server that you may have in mind. Depending on your specific needs, certain hosting companies and packages may suit you better than others. A good server is essential. If your website is down when people are trying to access it, you are losing money!

Q "I need to be able to accept credit cards online, but I don't have a merchant account. Can Designs By Sher/Equine Dzyns set me up so that I am able to accommodate online ordering?"

A We sure can! Designs By Sher/Equine Dzyns can recommend several low cost solutions to set you up with a merchant account using well established, reliable companies, which are FDIC insured. We can even help those businesses with credit problems!

  • Web Design Process

It may help you to understand what our process is, so that you will know what orders things normally happen in. Also be sure to read the section on Guidelines For You to find out what file formats and information we will need from you to make the design process more efficient!

The first thing we will need is a basic explanation of what the project is, what kind of clients you sell to, and whatever information you can give us about your product. We like to be familiar with what we are selling! It gives us a better idea of how to approach the graphics and layout.

Next, we will work with you to develop an outline of your website or project. This step is essential in the web design process, and is equally important in brochure design. This allows us to decide what order each section needs to be in, and in the case of a website, it is integral to designing the navigational system of your site. Great graphics and content are useless if your visitors get lost on your website!

Once the outline is completed and approved, we begin designing the graphics. This is where we need any existing logos, brochures, business cards, etc that your company uses, so that we can seamlessly integrate your website or ad into your existing literature. We will post the graphics in an area on our server so that you may view them via the internet. Once you approve the graphics, we continue on to the copy and images layout.

When we get to the stage where we are laying out the text copy and graphics, we prefer that you send us final copy, with no further edits to be made (with the exception of areas of a website that will be frequently updated after the site is completed, of course). If you need help writing your copy, we can help with that too! To keep it simple, many of our clients have found that the easiest way to send us their text copy is in a regular e-mail, bypassing a file attachment. If you choose to do this, please make a note of any formatting you want to have done, such as bold words, italics, text graphic, etc.
